About Skeeter Boats

In 1948, Holmes Thurman built the first Skeeter Bass Boat in Shreveport, LA made of molded marine plywood with a flat bottom and tumblehome side decks. The boat got the Skeeter name due to its needle-shaped nose that resembled a mosquito.

Skeeter became one of the first innovators of using fiberglass in the making of their boats and in 1961, Ben Cook moved Skeeter Boats to Longview, TX where Skeeter Marine began. Skeeter Marine expanded from there and moved operations to Kilgore, TX where they currently operate today.

Skeeter Boat Facts

In 1983, the Coleman Company known for camping equipment purchased Skeeter Marine. And then in 1996 Yamaha Outboards acquired Skeeter Marine. These two companies teaming up being Yamaha was the most technologically advanced outboard engine company made for new resources and advancements for the Skeeter product line.

All Skeeter Boats have been certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association and meet all U.S. Coast Guard and American Boat and Yacht Council requirements.
